Challenge

We face a significant challenge in schools today where many students do not find school interesting or motivating. Instead, they are more attracted to their games and mobile phones, which offer instant rewards, exciting environments, and immediate feedback. This attraction to digital entertainment has a noticeable impact on their engagement in school activities. One of the most worrying consequences of this phenomenon is a declining interest in reading among students. We see a downward trend in reading. Many students do not develop the necessary reading skills and abilities required to comprehend more advanced texts. This can lead to serious long-term consequences, both for their academic success and their future career opportunities. Without strong reading skills, students may struggle to understand and analyze texts in subjects like social studies, science, and mathematics. This limits their ability to succeed academically and to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This challenge is also important from a social perspective. Lack of skills can lead to decreased self-confidence and self-esteem among students, which in turn can affect their overall school experience and well-being. Students who feel less capable compared to their peers may become even less motivated and engaged in school activities. The challenge we face requires a deep understanding of the factors that influence students' interest and engagement in school. This understanding is crucial to creating a school environment that both attracts and engages students in a meaningful way.
