Challenge

One of the most pressing challenges in education today is that pupils are advancing beyond teachers' knowledge of AI and technology. This creates a significant barrier, as educators feel increasingly overwhelmed by the rapid pace of technological change. Teachers struggle to stay current with emerging technologies and integrate them effectively into their teaching practices. Another critical challenge is that assessments and exams have not evolved to account for digital literacy and metacognition. Traditional evaluation methods fail to measure students' abilities to navigate and critically assess digital information, skills essential for success in the 21st century. This mismatch leaves students unprepared for the digital demands of the modern world, as their education does not reflect the realities of a technology-driven society. Additionally, there is a broader challenge concerning what it means to be human in the 21st century (I'm a philosophy teacher!). As AI and technology reshape every aspect of our lives, how will education systems adapt to ensure that students develop not only technical skills but also critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and emotional intelligence?
