Challenge

In a recent technology integration survey given to teachers and parents in my school district, there was a common thread in responses: “our students are surpassing us”. This is something that needs to be addressed. It is imperative that educators stay relevant and that parents have an understanding of how their children are interacting with technology. However, time is a big hurdle when it comes to professional development. There are a set number of days allotted for professional development hours, which are filled with other topics besides technology. District provided professional development days don’t happen frequently or fast enough to keep up with teacher needs regarding technology. Teachers feel that they cannot teach students what they themselves don’t know or understand. Time needs to be set aside to bring awareness of technology integration principles and best practices. Educators are struggling to keep up because technology is evolving exponentially.
