Challenge

Since the pandemic, I have noticed a very disturbing trend in education. We are losing excellent teachers out of our schools at a record pace. Now, this is not only happening here in my school district, it is happening on a national scale, which is very frightening. I have seen teachers just starting their educational career turn around not even five months later and quit the profession altogether. How can we provide a solid education for our students if we do not have qualified teachers to teach them? Our students are depending on us to provide the knowledge and skill sets to help them thrive in the future. This mass exodus of educators from my profession has made those of us who stay unsure of the future. Why is this happening? Why do so many of my colleagues decide to walk away from the greatest profession ever? Yes, a lot is being asked of so many of us, but we must continue to be there for our students. If we truly believe that our students are the future, then we MUST invest our time and resources into our schools. Now when I use the word “resources” I am not talking about money; I am talking about people. There has to be a way for us to get our teachers to stay, and be committed once again to educating our youth. Not one of us went into education to become wealthy, we entered this profession because we wanted to make a difference. Has that changed? Have my colleagues decided that it is no longer an attainable goal to help students find success? We cannot turn our back on our children, for without teachers, our future generation will be lost.
