Challenge

The biggest challenge I face in my role as a Teaching and Learning coach is engaging college staff and teachers in professional development opportunities. Professional development is a vital part of being a reflective practitioner, identify where improvements can be made in teaching practice to the benefit of the staff members, the students and the college or organisation. My role is to support all staff to develop the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, which is something I both value and enjoy, however factors such as staff workload, time management, timetabling and personal commitment greatly reduce the number of staff actively involved in professional development. In my experience staff are more motivated to engage in professional development if they perceive there to be a benefit. They are also greatly influenced but the quality of resources provided. I believe that high quality online staff development activities could solve this issue.
