Challenge
I like to create classes where both teachers and students are happy. For many years, I have been planning various class activities with my students and trying to have fun with them. This approach stems from my belief that education should be an experience that involves active participation and interaction with students, not just a process of knowledge transfer. However, the reality of high schools in Korea is dominated by a teaching style that focuses on preparing students for college entrance exams, and in this environment, most students prefer traditional lecture-style classes that are optimized for problem-solving and testing, and I have been struggling to implement my own teaching style. Nevertheless, I'm still trying to figure out how to come up with creative and individualized teaching and assessment methods that can take advantage of the characteristics and strengths of each student in the current university entrance examination-oriented education system. This is because I believe that education is not just about imparting knowledge, but also about providing opportunities for students to discover their potential and grow as individuals. However, as Korean students move into high school, they are faced with the reality of lecture-style classes centered on memorization and problem solving, as well as curriculum and assessment standards. These changes put a lot of pressure on students, and they gradually lose the passion and curiosity for learning that they once had, which is a major cause of unhappiness for both teachers and students. Therefore, I would like to create a classroom where students are happy and enjoy learning, away from the university entrance examination-oriented education system. My main goal is to gain the driving force to create a classroom where both teachers and students are happy without the interference of the Korean entrance examination system.
