Challenge

The current challenge I am experiencing in education is the lack of co-planning and collaboration in the inclusion classroom. Several of our students require co-teaching in their IEPs because this allows for different accommodations and modifications in the classroom; it also allows for other students to benefit from having two teachers in the classroom. Having positive relationships between the teachers in the collaborative classroom can intensify achievement in the classroom. Improvements in co-planning and communication are not happening in the classroom for both teachers because there is a disconnection in understanding how to effectively create a classroom culture that fosters positive student engagement. The disconnection can be either not adequately having enough time, understanding subject material, or not working well with assigned partners. Both teachers are frustrated, which can result in decreased effectiveness in the classroom.
