Lack of empathy and disconnectedness. These two items are massive barriers for the learning process. However, they are massive obstacles to overcome...especially considering the inequities inherent in education today. So how do we fix it? I'm not sure of the exact answer, but I know how world connections and experiences with other educators globally have impacted my ability to move from sympathy to empathy and become more connected, especially with those of different backgrounds. In order to tackle this issue, my thoughts are to take what I know about global connections and bring it to the classroom in innovative ways, such as live VR field trips from around the world to all schools and classrooms, regardless of socio-economics and lack of accessibility for those with special needs. I look forward to taking on this challenge with other passionate people from around the world!
