Challenge
I spend a lot of my time working in-class with teachers in a range of contexts and year groups. A constant challenge that I observe is the struggle that well meaning and passionate teachers face when trying to plan and deliver a classroom programme that is centred around creativity and creating. It seems that there are many barriers that teachers and learners encounter that restrict authentic and meaningful creativity in the classroom. Through conversations with many colleagues, peers and educators I work with, I have identified some barriers that I believe restrict creativity in classes: - Time. Or lack thereof. - Lack of digital fluency and confidence to utilise technology to redefine learning. - Fear of change and the unknown (Loss of control). - School timetabling and structures. - Assessment expectations that cause restrictions to classroom programmes. - Lack of integrated cross-curricular learning experiences
