Challenge

My challenge, becoming Innovator, would be to deepen the knowledge of SEL -Social Emotional Learning -approach and apply in my classroom, try to involve other teachers. SEL interventions that address CASEL’s five core competencies increased students’ academic performance by 11 percentile points, compared to students who did not participate in such SEL programs. Students participating in SEL programs also showed improved classroom behavior, an increased ability to manage stress and depression, and better attitudes about themselves, others, and school. “Should we use this program in my school?” “Would this new program really be helpful or worthwhile for our students? Why there is a so big lack of informations about this approach in Italy( and other countries)? After the COVID- 19, would be SEL an essential subject in school especially due to the fact that Covid-19 has considered a collective adverse childhood experience (ACE) that has directly or indirectly impacted everyone? In response to COVID-19, school leaders must take action now, using this guide to co-create supportive learning environments where all students and adults can enhance their social and emotional competencies, feel a sense of belonging, heal, and thrive. Could we take the afford the challenge to change the teaching approach, giving to SEL the right and primary role in the learning process? How Could My challenge be involved in this change? Supporting the SEL needs of students and families is always important, but right now it is perhaps one of the most urgent concerns facing school systems. The reality is that while schools are closed, students may be experiencing abuse, neglect, community violence, and a host of other stressors. Many teachers never approached SEL in the classroom due to a lack of information or time. Could my challenge try to remediate those problems?
