Challenge

Young children love to invent and have endless creative ideas for inventions that include technology. They have ideas for inventions with wings, lights, motors, wheels, speakers, rocket boosters and lasers, but get stuck when it comes to actually building a product. An idea that sounds incredible on paper just can't be realised with construction toys, and electronics kits aren't designed for tiny hands or children who can't read yet. Apps that exist are confusing and again, not designed for young children. There isn't anything available that teachers can give to children aged 4-6 and say, 'here you go - invent something!' I've struggled time and time again with invention projects for this age group, having to make activities less open ended to ensure that they understand how things actually work. I want to give them them the freedom to invent with technology.
