I have recently been appointed to the role of Development Officer for Digital Learning within my local authority. I hold the remit of building teachers' capacity and confidence in using digital tools to enhance the learning experience for pupils. I hope to be able to balance my time between supporting the use of specific tools and expanding the thinking of our teachers around methods of instruction, curriculum design and personalising learning. My challenge is differentiating professional learning for the 1,200 teachers to ensure it is meaningful in their context, subject or speciality, all whilst building their enthusiasm and confidence in the use of digital technologies. I am very aware that, if I get my approach wrong, busy teachers will not commit their time and the many benefits digital technologies can have, when used appropriately within a learning context, will be missed for some of our pupils.
