Challenge
With the COVID-19 quarantine, my challenge is to engage parents/guardians with their child's digital education. Research has shown that parent/guardian and teacher collaboration is crucial for student progress in the classroom. Before the pandemic, parents and teachers would meet face to face in numerous conferences to help assist their child at home with their work. It also is a critical part of student accountability with their work and behavior. Once our district went to a distance learning format, parents lost that connection. They have never used distance learning in their experience as it did not exist when they were in schools. It's clear that our students know more about the platform than their parents/guardians and that parents want help to collaborate with teachers through distance learning. Some students are using this parent lack of knowledge and take advantage of the system by tricking their parents by saying they are completing their work when they are actually failing.
