Challenge
One of the challenges I am having is engaging boys in learning Maths, and in particular Algebra. Over the last few years I have trialled using aspects of coding - in particular spreadsheet formula's - to help students grasp the concepts of a variable and an expression so they go beyond just being able to answer a maths question, but develop a deeper understanding. I firmly believe that computational thinking is an essential understanding - along side being literate and numerate and that using this in teaching students maths will enhance their engagement and enjoyment of the subject. This matters because students having a negative mindset in Maths is widespread and so solving this challenge by developing a different approach could be shared with the world and potentially impact many other learners.
