Challenge

Teachers are stretched for time and, in Scotland, there is a huge push to tackle bureaucracy within the education profession. Many teachers I meet are eager to learn from others working in similar contexts to their own; to share ideas and resources with others; and to collaborate with others to build sustained professional relationships to benefit their own professional learning. Currently online platforms (social media/communities such as Google Plus) are becoming increasingly popular for teachers to share what they’re doing successfully in their classrooms. However, collaboration is minimal and those who wish to work with others struggle to find a consistent platform used by all to do so. By enhancing online collaboration opportunities, teachers will build a supportive community around them, learn from others and develop their skills as a result. Teacher collaboration has been proven to impact positively on teacher confidence and self-esteem, school improvement and educational change.
