How might we spread innovative practices that are shown to measurably improve student mastery for all? The Capital City Public Charter School Innovation Team uses design thinking strategies to identify common challenges faced by Capital City PCS teachers, and design solutions to those problems. As part of this work, teachers become school-wide experts, piloting new software, completing rapid-cycle pilot innovations, and “owning” the creation of solutions to many of the challenges created by colleagues. The innovations developed by these teachers are documented throughout the pilot process, so that these great ideas can be shared with other staff members struggling with similar challenges. By honoring the work of innovative teachers, we can develop a culture of innovation, spreading strong instructional practices across the school for the benefit of all students.
