Students are not the only ones in education dealing with mental health struggles. Educators spend a majority of their time serving. They are passionate, tireless workers but this can come at a cost. Even in the best cultures and thriving communities, many may be heading to a point of exhaustion. After 13 years in education, I was blindsided by what I thought was teacher burnout. I lost sleep, my appetite and my desire to connect with people and colleagues, the very ones that often filled my bucket. Two years ago, it almost all ended as I experienced a mental health crisis. In order for educators to best lead others and make a positive impact, they must be well, physically, emotionally and mentally. This matters and educators must know they are not alone in their struggles. This is an ongoing challenge as many suffer in silence and some leave the profession.
