Challenge

My challenge is that schools need support to incorporate making and design into classes. Educators can be anxious with projects, and concerned that their curriculum and standards will be lost. Students and teachers worry about their final projects, only seeing the outcome as learning. They are concerned that the end only matters. Educators may also feel that making and design is only for specific classes. My challenge is important because design and making are beneficial to the entire learning process. The educational outcome is the design process. The iterative process exposes students to failure, feedback and redesign. This increases learning and resilience. Making can also meet multiple standards and cover large areas of curriculum, while giving students more choice and voice. Examples and training would help educators facilitate better projects, see examples of making in all sorts of curriculum, and reach their learning outcomes in new and unique ways.
