Challenge

With so much press around the importance of teaching coding, states have increasingly responded with legislation addressing access to computer science in our schools. Parents look to administrators and teachers to provide opportunities for their kids. Early exposure is critical to solving the diversity problem that currently exists in STEM fields. While events like “Hour of Code” have exposed millions of students to computer programming, schools struggle to move beyond coding as a special activity. Teachers see coding as a technology skill for those who might pursue computer science, rather than a tool for learning for all students. With so many demands on their time, teachers see the push for coding as "one more thing".
