Challenge

In the age of online accessibility, students are globally aware. We are doing amazing things in our classrooms by engaging in "maker culture" and shifting focus to STEM-based activities, but we aren't doing enough to connect those products with our community. Kids are motivated by other kids. They see them online, building apps or fighting for climate change, but that's the highlight reel. How can we make these actions seem more accessible for all kids, and make it a fun way for them to unite and interact? If we don't encourage kids to use their skills as a maker to affect change in their communities, they will become desensitized to the issues. They will think that someone else will do it. The ability to affect positive change won't seem accessible to them. How can we have kids use their creativity to make something that will positively impact their community?
