Challenge

Tucked away in a small corner of a large and technology-rich school district is a small town known for its peanut farms and a fear of technology. Many of the local jobs do not require anything more powerful than a cash register. My challenge is that the school and community I serve are stuck in a paper-based world where the teacher stands and delivers the knowledge students need to know in order to pass a test. This is important because our students are not graduating with the skills needed to be successful in a global and technology-rich economy. There is a larger world outside of this tiny farming town and it requires students to be creative problem-solvers, collaborators, and communicators. Teachers should not be fearful of technology tools and devices. They need to embrace the technology and how it can help them create learning experiences that have an impact.
