Challenge

Accessibility is something that we’re all keen to promote and there are great tools to support access for pupils with learning difficulties including larger font, text to speech and speech to text. However, for pupils with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ASD and working memory problems there are still more ways that they can be supported with their learning. For example, by using certain fonts (sans serif) and colour contrasts (by avoiding black text on a white background in particular), we can make text more readable for dyslexic students. By reducing the amount of clutter on a screen or website, we can help a dyspraxic student to process information or reduce stress for a student with ASD. By providing opportunities to break things down into manageable chunks, we can help pupils with working memory problems to process information. I'm keen to explore ways to support pupils more effectively with technology
