How to provide impactful technology and innovation professional development to administrators in a way that makes a difference to teachers and school culture? I believe that the building principal is the linchpin for everything that happens in a school, from staff culture to the effective adoption of new practices. Most professional development is geared toward teachers, and even when administrators are in the room, their attention is often elsewhere. Administrators are busy and pulled in many different directions, so finding time to meet with them as a group is difficult. If I could find a way to engage them in a professional development program focused on impactful technology and innovation practices, I believe that willingness to fail forward and incorporate innovative practices in schools will dramatically increase. As primary evaluator, what a principal prioritizes and models to her staff usually becomes what teachers prioritize and integrate into their professional practices.
